Improve Joint Commission compliance
It's Monday, you enter the server room and it is HOT. The natural reaction at this point is to quickly diagnose the problem, and get the temperature down. Whew, it's all better now...but not really, things just do not seem 'right'.

What does the Joint Commission say about Medication Refrigerator Temperature Logs?

Per the Joint Commission website

Although the organization does not specifically require temperature logs for storage of medications, they do note that medications be stored under necessary conditions to ensure stability. Essentially, the Joint Commission is stating that the individual drug's manufacturer dictates the conditions necessary for proper storage.

In addition, the Joint Commission requires that a health care organization describe and implement processes to "maintain and monitor equipment performance". The most accurate way of accomplishing this is through an automated temperature monitoring solution. If this route is chosen, then there are guidelines that the Joint Commission has set:

  1. The monitoring method must be ongoing
  2. The method must indicate whether or not internal temperature has deviated from the required ranges for the drugs stored
  3. The organization should have a documented process of handling drugs from a refrigerator or freezer that has deviated from the recommended range.

So the question really becomes, how reliable is an organization's manual process? Sensatronics has numerous medical/hospital customers that have realized that in most cases a manual process was not adequate to ensure proper storage temperatures. Thus they chose our solution to make sure that the patients and the hospital were protected.
